The term torticollis is derived from the latin words tortus (twisted) and collum (neck). Torticillis, sometimes called "wry neck" is caused by involuntary, unilateral contraction of the neck muscles, particularly the SCM and trapezius. This protective splinting results in lateral flexion and contralateral rotation.
"Cervical Spondylosis" describes age-related spinal degenerative changes, eventually causing nerve root irritation and/ or compression, resulting in radicular signs and symptoms into one or both upper extremities."
The term "Acute Low Back Pain", by itself, does not constitute a formal diagnosis. This condition is intended to be used as a symptom modifier to structural diagnoses such as: Lumbar facet Syndrome, Lumbar Sprain/ Strain, Lumbar Disc Lesion, etc. For a complete review, please see the condition synopsis of the associated structural diagnosis.
Shoulder Anterior Impingement Syndrome (SAIS), first described by Neer in 1972, is caused when the supraspinatus tendon becomes painfully entrapped between the acromion and the greater tuberosity of the humerus during elevation and internal rotation of the arm.
"Lateral epicondylopathy", formerly "lateral epicondylitis", is a painful irritation of the common origin of the wrist extensor muscles. Lateral epicondylopathy (LE) is the most common cause of elbow pain. The condition is related to repetitive wrist extension and is commonly referred to as "tennis elbow", although the majority of those affected do not play tennis.
"Upper Crossed Syndrome" aka "Cervical Crossed Syndrome" was first described by Vladimir Janda in 1979 as a predictable pattern of alternating tightness and weakness involving the neck and shoulders. The condition frequently contributes to neck and back pain and is associated with diagnoses including cervical radiculopathy, cervicogenic headaches, cervicogenic vertigo, and rotator cuff pathology.
